Exquisite as the area is, Chautauqua Lake has taken massive environmental hits from agricultural runoff and effluents from businesses around the lake causing algae blooms in the warm summer months. We are all part of the solution.
This cottage is in eco-transition. New fixtures are LED and LED & CFL bulbs are standard. Though we are fortunate to have well water, the largest CO2 hit actually comes from heating and pumping the water so low-flow fixtures and aerators are throughout.
Eco features include upstairs queen Euro-mattress of organic latex, low VOC paints, low toxicity cleaning and personal supplies, recycling area, organic linens and shabby-chic linens and gently-loved furniture.
Refuse, repair, reduce, re-use, recycle. Guests are asked to recycle paper, metal, glass, plastics, in the marked bins.
You are encouraged to use the available re-usable bags for shopping or just carrying things around town. Feel free to use the cloth napkins and cleaning rags over the paper alternatives. Paper supplies are 100% recycled
If you bring a boat, keep the engine running efficiently and don’t leave the motor running unnecessarily. Walk or bike to town whenever you can. Combine errands and sightseeing in your auto runs.
Should we have a compost tumbler when you arrive, consider continuing your home routines.
We’ll leave a note in the Guest Guidelines binder about the routines.
